A Guessing Game

Elder Sommerfeldt isn't one to write much in his emails, but he does enjoy bantering back and forth when we happen to be online at the same time. He will create gospel analogies out of pop culture references and then get us all to guess what he is talking about. His game-show side has struck once more! Here is an excerpt from his last email, and you can play along as well:

"I am pretty sure everybody in my district is going crazy including me (just a warning about the 4th week is when mostly everybody goes crazy). Also I got a BoM case for my spanish El Libro de Mormon its made out of leather with the image of 2 persons burned into the leather on either side. And my question for the week is can anybody guess which people they are? (hint: one of them is my most favorite hero in the BoM (this one requires an extra hint he has a very important position) . The other one is very important to our church and is in the bible and BoM) Let the games begin! (I´ll show you pictures next week after the guesses come in)

Love,
James"

So, what are your guesses?

UPDATE: THE ANSWER IS CAPTAIN MORONI AND JESUS

Goofing Around in Mexico City

Of the Mexico MTC, James writes, "This place would be paradise if I wasn't stuck in class all day. I am counting down the siemas till I'm out of aqui. "

James is very anxious to get to California. His spanish is improving greatly CAN YOU BELIEVE HE ONLY STARTED A FEW WEEKS AGO? and it looks like he is having a ton of fun fooling around. Seriously, look at those photos, I don't get it, is it a guy thing or..?

First Glimpse of the CCM

Here's proof that our Elder made it to Mexico in one piece! He is there to learn how to, basically, become a missionary as well as learn Spanish. Then he flies into the States to serve the remainder of his mission in California. James is the District Leader, to which he is a little wary of because - in his own words - "yo obiar extra responsibility."

I personally think that Mexico looks gorgeous and I think I can already see a tan coming in!

STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT ADVENTURE!

A Little Video To Start Us Off

I made a little video today after we dropped Elder Sommerfeldt off at the airport.

YOU CAN WATCH IT HERE.

Two Years Starts Now

See ya in two, James!

These photos were all taken within 7 hours of him leaving on his mission. The top photo is the last one I got to take of him for two years.

We took James to the airport at 4:00 am for him to catch his flight to Mexico City. He reports to the Mexico MTC today. He will spend a few weeks in a "Missionary crash course" to learn how to teach the gospel in spanish. After that, it's on to Bakersfield!

I'm excited to see all the adventures Elder Sommerfeldt will go on and all the lives he'll bless.

And We're Off!

James leaves in t-minus 28 hours. Crazy. He gets set apart tomorrow evening and officially becomes "Elder Sommerfeldt".

In case you were wondering, James' call is to the California Bakersfield mission. He will serve for a period of two years in this new mission, teaching primarily in the spanish language. He reports to the Mexico Missionary Training Centre to learn fluent spanish in a matter of weeks.

It takes some serious faith to go on a mission, and I am proud of the example my brother is setting. I am also pretty dang excited for him! Enjoy California and work hard!

Also, James' "I'm a Mormon" page is up, if you're curious.
